Can White Spots on Teeth Be Prevented?

It is easy for food to get stuck and plaque to build up in areas where braces are attached to the teeth. White spots may appear on the teeth of people with fixed braces. The white spots are actually signs of early decay. It may be tricky, but it is important to thoroughly clean and brush teeth while wearing fixed braces.

Cochrane Researchers found that daily mouth rinsing with a prescription sodium fluoride product reduces tooth decay and the appearance of white spots on teeth. They also found it was helpful to use bonding materials that contain fluoride when attaching braces. It is important to remember to clean your braces according to your orthodontist’s instructions and receive regular dental cleanings and examinations while wearing braces. Doing so will help ensure your dazzling white smile.
